Why We Chose Organic Clothing
When we set out to begin this project, one principle was clear: whatever effort we committed to, we wanted to be part of the solution. We shared our thoughts on this many years ago on a long-forgotten Facebook page, but the reality remains the same today—fast fashion has a far greater impact on our planet than many people realise. As clothing is produced and discarded at an ever-increasing pace, fast fashion places growing demands on the environment through resource use, emissions and waste. It's estimated that around 20% of garments produced are never sold and ultimately end up as waste, illustrating just how much clothing is manufactured beyond genuine demand.
Further, conventional cotton is one of the world's most widely grown crops, but its production can place considerable demands on natural resources. In many regions, it requires significant amounts of water and often relies on synthetic pesticides and fertilisers, which can affect soil health, waterways and local biodiversity when not carefully managed. While practices vary from farm to farm, these challenges are one of the reasons we chose to focus on certified organic cotton wherever possible.
We choose organic cotton clothing certified to recognised standards because they assess more than just the materials used. Certifications such as GOTS also include environmental and social criteria, helping to promote responsible manufacturing, safe working conditions and fair treatment throughout production.
While the materials we choose are an important part of the equation, how those garments are produced is equally important. That's why we adopted a print-on-demand clothing model. Rather than manufacturing large volumes of stock in anticipation of demand, each garment is printed only after an order is placed. This helps avoid the overproduction that is common throughout the fashion industry, reducing excess inventory and the waste that often comes with it.
Finally, sustainability shouldn't come at the expense of comfort or quality. That's why our sustainable clothing is made from 100% ring-spun organic cotton. The ring-spinning process produces smoother, stronger and softer fibers than conventional spinning methods, resulting in garments that feel comfortable from the first wear while being made to last. We believe that clothing designed to be worn and enjoyed for years is a more sustainable choice than clothing made to be replaced after a handful of wears.
No single decision will solve the environmental challenges facing the fashion industry. However, we believe that choosing better materials, producing only what is needed and creating garments designed to last are meaningful steps in the right direction.
